Movie Chases through San Francisco

San Francisco, California. A beautiful city that has been the background to many an iconic film scene. Vertigo, The Maltese Falcon and The Birdman of Alcatraz to name a few. However, this is a snapshot of the best use of the city in movies - a chase sequence. Here are my top five for San Francisco:

5. Magnum Force (1973)

It is a very small part of the movie, but it couples San Francisco's most infamous fictional son, Dirty Harry with one of its most famous landmarks - Lombard Street.

4. Foul Play (1978)

This is the first of the comic chase scenes in this list. Chevy Chase and Goldie Hawn use every means necessary to get to the Opera to foil the assignation attempt.

3. The Rock (1996)

A great action car chase from the mid 1990s.

2. What's Up Doc? (1972)

I love this movie. It is Peter Bogdanovich's homage to the screwball comedies of the 1930s and it is hilarious. Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal are excellent and it does introduce us to Madeline Kahn.

1. Bullitt (1968)

Could it be anything else? I don't think so.
